For learn-it-yourselfers (Yes, I think we just made that word up), the Learn and Master Drums course represents one of the best ways to learn to play drums from the comfort and relaxed atmosphere of your own home. The course is primarily DVD-based so all you really need is either a DVD-player or a computer that can play DVDs… and your drum set of course.

The Learn and Master Drums curriculum gives you all the information and tools you’ll need to play drums proficiently. The course was designed with beginners and intermediates in mind. New drummers that haven’t had much training in music have a lot of questions to answer and Learn and Master Drums does a great job of addressing the fundamentals before moving into more advanced playing techniques and theory.

The course is taught by Dann Sherrill, an experienced professional studio musician and performing drummer/percussionist based out of Nashville. He’s worked with many artists such as Michael English, Percy Sledge, Mose Allison, and Steve Winwood amongst others. He’s also involved in teaching the drums in workshops and clinics throughout the Midwest in addition to maintaining his own private tutoring practice.

If you’ve tried unsuccessfully to learn the drums before, you may know that by themselves, simple textbooks and ebooks don’t really make for effective lessons. Without the interactive nature of seeing and hearing the lessons you handicap yourself greatly in learning the drums.

That’s why a course like the Complete Rock Drumming System gives drum students a huge advantage as it uses both DVD video lessons and supplementary printed workbooks to teach its students.
If you’ve seen this course before and are wondering about its reputability, note that though mostly sold online, it is actually sold at some Canadian Costcos, which says an awful lot regarding the quality of this learning package.

The Rock Drumming System was designed primarily by Jared Falk of Railroad Media. It was developed for over a year and released in 2006. Jared has been teaching drums privately for quite a while, and currently plays for 10 different bands.

If you’ve never visited StickTechnique.com’s website before, you’re in for a shocker. Why? Well to be brutally honest, StickTechnique.com is one of the most horrendously designed websites I’ve ever come across in my entire life. Over-the-top copy, a rainbow of clashing colors, blinking graphics, annoying animations; yep… it has it all.

Now, typically I recommend that people keep a safe distance from businesses that are represented by websites that look like they’re designed by a kid using Microsoft Paint ®, but in this case I’ll make an exception. When reviewing this course we discovered that, despite the awful website, the actual training package was actually well thought-out and well-presented.

The author of this eBook training package is Jim McCarthy, an Australian drummer, percussionist, and teacher with almost 20 years of experience. He holds a degree in percussion, and has experience playing in all sorts of bands and orchestras. Jim has also published a separate video drumming course that we’ve reviewed as well, titled Begin Drumming.
